Last weekend was a truly beautiful time: More than 150 makers from all over the Midwest and from across the country converged on the Columbus Hyatt for three days of learning.
If you were among the makers who joined us, please fill out the attendee survey so we can make next year even better! Now that we’ve had a few days to relax and recover, we want to thank everyone who played a part in pulling the weekend off!
Our delightful keynote speakers:Yao Cheng, Chris Glass and Jen Hewett. Your honesty and bravery were an inspiration to us, and we’re so happy you were able to join us! The same goes for all of our speakers: Olivera Bratich, Caroline Creaghead, Stephanie Capps Dyke, Talia Halliday, Andy J. Miller, Esther Myong Hall, Mei Pak, Allison Rosen, Kiffanie Stahle, Tamia Stinson, Tara Swiger, Nicole A. Taylor, Annal Vyas, Lesley Ware, and The Wonder Jam.
We also want to give special thanks to the Ohio Arts Council for awarding us an ArtSTART matching grant. And to Weebly, which sponsored our happy hour, provided expert website advice and a discount for conners — you can save 25% on a Weebly plan until the first week of March!
Many other creative businesses, craft corporations and Columbus institutions supported us with monetary or in-kind donations, including: 614 Knit Studio, Alison Rose, Blackwing, Columbus College of Art & Design, Dabble & Stitch, Field Notes, Handmade Arcade, Homespun Modern Handmade, the Hoop & Needle, Jo-Ann Stores, Sew to Speak, the Smithery, Square, Sticker Giant, Surprise!, Wexner Center for the Arts, Wholly Craft, WildCard PGH, and Yarn It & Haberdashery. PHEW!
Everybody got googly:
And there was all sorts of swag:
We sent our Rachel db (@racheldbcreative) to the #MidwestCraftCon this past weekend and while we wait for the full report, here's her photo of the cheeriest conference swag we've ever seen. We'll let her tell you about the photo in the comments! (we do know there was a crafty gift exchange with @solheritage, a day of fun on the #craftycaravan … raffle tickets and a prize from @yarnitanddash and an enamel pin purchase from @sewtospeak during said caravan.) #craftthepainaway #businessconference #columbus #ohio
New friendships were made:
We even solved a murder:
Things also got serious:
And things got seriously silly:
We hope that you stay in touch with your new con friends via the private Facebook group — email us if you didn’t get an invite or if you registered with an email address different from what you use for Facebook. Now we return to “normal” life — but before long we’ll be thinking about next year.
Who are we kidding? We’re already thinking about 2018. Don’t stop crafting!
Love, Megan, Grace & Brit
